This is the test pressing of the debut LP by Meshuggah. I don't know much about the label, but I'm betting it was just the band's label, or just a small town label. The songs are packed with edgy, spiky guitars, the bass and drums plenty loud and proud, and the whole deal comes across as a truly molten version of the more watered down stuff this band would give us after changing their name to Rage. However, I would be willing to bet, that under the right circumstances, this could easily fetch $1000. The disc is in perfect condition. This is not a good thing, because their skills are sloppy at best. Common to find with a white goat, nearly impossible to find with a yellow. Good stuff, though not quite as epic inclined as the awesome sleeve illustration might imply. But if I'm correct, this Warlord effort was not shot in front of an audience, but on a sound stage. And except for the ballad "Teenage Overdose" those keys behave themselves, not overwhelming the sound. Depending on the condition of the record and insert, you can expect to pay between $150 and $450 for this. It does appear on static sales sites like Discogs, but never from multiple sellers at once. Not the best metal record ever, but for 1987 this is stinking raw metal at a time when things were getting far too processed and shiny. They are next to impossible to find. For those of you who remember the medieval metal style of Griffin, Liege Lord or early Fates Warning, this is essentially what Dungeon do, only their sound lacks purpose and their songs are well shy of being terribly original. In the world of indie released eighties metal, this is assuredly towards the better end of the spectrum, and it's gotta be pretty damn valuable if you can scare up an original vinyl pressing (yeah, right!). But somehow, the raging old school thrash of the title cut defeats all that, as do "Chainsaw" and "Save Their Souls."
