This year is it’s 50th anniversary, focusing on the theme ‘climate action’.

Why We Should Celebrate Earth Day?

Earth day has been getting worldwide popularity since its introduction in 1970. The main objective of Earth Day is to make a sustainable, healthy and clean living habitat for the people as well as wildlife. It reminds us of how fragile our planet earth is and how important it is to protect our earth. Earth Day promotes environmental awareness and it indicates that we can protect our earth by doing some activities in our everyday lives. After all, there is no planet B.

How We Can Contribute On Earth Day At School

Earth Day has already made a solid impact globally and it can also play an important role on a topical level as well. Young children can also participate in this in order to make our world a better and safer place. Therefore, we have added some steps through which students can contribute on Earth Day at school.

  • Bulletin Boards: Teachers can tell students to create bulletin boards with recycled items. Moreover, the teacher can tell students to find out various ways of recycling items at school and at home as well. Teachers can also award students for their hard work and it will also encourage them to do such activities more.
  • Poster Projects: Students can also encourage each other by making ‘Green House’ posters. As a monitor, one can set certain tasks such as keeping the classroom clean and producing less waste. After that, through the poster projects, students can remind each other about the importance of this day.
  • Vocabulary Activities: There are many lessons as well as activities based on Earth Day and these are specially designed for ESL classrooms. As a teacher, one can teach these lessons on Earth Day in order to build interest among the students.

How To Contribute On Earth Day At Home

It does not matter whether you are at the workplace or home, anyone can contribute to Earth Day. Here, we have added a few steps through which one can contribute to Earth Day staying at home.

  • Tree Plantation: Tree plantation is one of the best ways through which one can contribute on this very special day. Trees provide oxygen which is something that animals as well as humans need to survive. Moreover, with the advancement of our civilization, the numbers of trees are decreasing and therefore, we can make a sweet balance by planting at least a single tree on Earth Day.
  • Try To Clean The Surroundings: You can make a short trip over your local park. There, you can pick trash and keep the park clean. It will make the surroundings more enjoyable for the kids.
  • Save electricity, conserve water and avoid unnecessary trips (alone) by car
  • Join Earth Day Live: a three-day online event in which livestreams of activists, artists, celebrities and others come together as one.
