sustainability

production

Unified Nature is dedicated to finding the right partners for the production process, that share the same vision as ours. The path that we have chosen has made strategic business decisions one of our priorities, so that environmental and social objectives can be achieved. This is done by investing resources, time and effort into understanding what exactly is happening and used at every stage and activity within the supply chain. Thus, we pledge ourselves to only collaborating with associates that have invested time and effort into obtaining specific textile certifications & standards for sustainability and ethical work.

Unified Nature process organic cotton production

Our suppliers are committed to full transparency. All our garments that are made from organic cotton, are certified with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This means that all organic apparel of Unified Nature is made from at least 95% certified organic fibres. The entire supply chain, from harvesting process of the raw materials to the actual production of the garments, is accounted for and regulated. In the process, all organic fibres have been separated and identified, chemical inputs are evaluated and have met the stated requirements on toxicity and biodegradability, and environmental policies including target goals and procedures to minimize waste and discharges are applied. Moreover, these procedures are obliged to comply with additional social criteria based on the norms of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and a Quality Assurance System. Operations are validated by a Certificate of Compliance and Transaction Certificate(s) from our partners.

As new collections are designed continuously, Unified Nature proceeds to explore and analyze alternative fabric options and collaborations. Our strong will to construct products of exceptional high quality, with minimal impact on the environment, will leave a mark on our customers, as well as the planet.

GOTS Certification

ORDERS

Each order comes with an eco-friendly unwrapping experience, where all used materials are FSC Certified, acid free and with soy based inks. What is more exciting, our packaging is even compostable! Next to this, each order that is shipped out is compensated for through the CO2 Compensation-Program by our logistic provider. This reduces the carbon footprint left behind from all orders, and contributes to reducing harm on the natural environment.

There are creative re-use options for our packaging; you can send other goods in same packaging or return garments in same packaging. When the packaging is used for a second time after its initial use, that doubles the utility of the packaging, and prevents another single-use piece of packaging from being used! This zero waste philosophy contributes to a circular economy, which strives to keep products or materials in use for as long as possible in order to conserve resources. If reuse won’t be the case, the mailers will break down after 90 days in commercial compost and 180 days in domestic compost conditions. Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow. Making compost keeps these materials out of landfills where they take up space and release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. You can do backyard composting, or even indoor composting, if you don’t have space for an outdoor compost pile. Because of the fact that the mailers are made of bio based polymer and plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw, our packaging becomes biodegradable. After degradation in your household, no harmful residues are left behind.

Moving to our customized tissue paper and packaging tape, these as well are eco-friendly. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has officially certified the tissue paper and tape, meaning these are sourced from a forest and supply chain that is managed responsibly and sustainably. Moreover, the tape is made from 100% recycled content and is not coated in wax. In addition, the tissue paper and tape are customized with soy-based ink, which reduces air pollution during the drying process, and recyclable. The tissue paper is 30% made from recycled materials, and 70% from new pulp. It’s also acid free, lignin- and sulfur- free, hence the paper won’t leave any of these chemicals behind when decomposing.

COMMITMENT

Unified Nature has partnered with One Tree Planted, in order to give back to Mother Nature. Trees clean our air and water, create habitats for biodiversity, contribute to our health and wellbeing, and create jobs for social impact. We’re honored to have reforestation through One Tree Planted as an integral part of our business model. Every customer who places an order, also plants a tree on the planet. Depending on the campaign we’re running, we choose a destination for the trees, which can vary from Australia, to Asia, North- or Latin America, or even Africa. The trees are planted by local partner organizations and communityvolunteers in areas where there has been deforestation. If you’d like to choose a specific country to plant your tree, contact us directly and we can see what can be arranged.

As we are doing the most to enhance the state our planet is in, there are always areas in which we can improve, whether it is on an internal level or a Mondial scale. Even though the ‘Global Organic Textile Standard’ validates the acceptable environmental and social practices, it is not enough to ensure workers’ safety, working conditions, reduce CO2 emissions, pollution and waste, entirely. We know that Unified Nature is currently not living up to its futuristic objectives, but we are determined to become a responsible company in more ways than one.
